RebelAds is a simple, but very powerful AdsSolution built into you Matomo interface.
Why RebelAds for Matomo?
We got a question from one of our clients, that produce an online magazine for their members. The issue they have is that the members are actually part of a union, meaning that this membership is actually needed to be treated as a sensitive personal data according to GDPR.
With RebelAds for Matomo you can sell ads on your site without exploiting your end users privacy.This means that if you are running Ads platforms like Google Ads, you are in very deep waters when it comes to protecting your members from being tagged as union members in these ads systems.
The client asked us if we could help out in some way. The natural answer was to build this solution into their CMS, but the problem with this is that you then have to integrate the ads with your statistis system and even though this is definitely possible we can up with the idea to instead use Matomo to serve the ads.
It turned out to be a very good idea! Here is an example of how and an ad through RebelAds would look at a Magazine like Washington News. (just a demo).
How RebelAds for Matomo works
1. Create an ad area and add to you website
An ad area is an area on the website where you want your ads to be displayed. Normally this is the "Panorama" in the top of the page or the "sidebar ads" in the right column or the "inline ad" in the middle of an article etc.
The cool thing with Matomo is that we have the TagManager, so if we have Matomo on our website we can actually create these areas without adding any additional code to our website.
2. Creating an ad in RebelAds for Matomo
Its very easy to create an ad, you simply need to add a link (to where the add will point) and then add a link to the image you want to display. Normally you can use your CMS to serve images from. After you selected the image, you will get a preview of the ad.
The final step is to select the Ad area where you want you ad to be displayed, then just hit save and you ad will be displayed. You can also set a publish / unpublish date, and for better reporting you have to connect the ad to a client (this will give you better reporting).
3. Working with ads statistics in RebelAds for Matomo
With Matomo we have great statistics opportunities for our ads.
We can:

- See detailed uses logs
- See detailed reports per ad, page or client
- Easily export ads statistics
